What Is Dental Monitoring?
Dental Monitoring is a diagnostic imaging tool that allows us to monitor your braces treatment progress or clear aligners treatment without frequent in-office visits. With the Dental Monitoring ScanBox Pro, you can send us a detailed image of your teeth quickly and get back to living.
The Dental Monitoring ScanBox slides onto your smartphone and allows you to take a close-up image of your teeth, gums, and jaws. This allows us to see your progress with your braces or clear aligners as they move your teeth. The system works with all braces, from traditional metal braces to clear ceramic braces.
The ScanBox Pro positions your mouth and lips so you can use your smartphone to take a detailed image of your teeth and braces. Special software from Dental Monitoring uses AI-assisted diagnostic tools to flag any possible issues with your treatment.
How Does Dental Monitoring Work?
Once you scan your mouth images into the app using the ScanBox Pro, that data will be sent to Shoe Orthodontics. We will analyze the photos ourselves and with the Dental Monitoring AI software, which will flag any potential problems it believes are worth further examination.
We will then be able to tell you whether you are on track with your braces treatment or clear aligners treatment. We can plan for any adjustments and be ready the next time you visit the office.
The Dental Monitoring system also saves your images in the app so you can see your progress! The software’s photo time-lapse technology lets you see your progress quickly and easily.

How Do I Download the Dental Monitoring App?
Shoe Orthodontics prescribes the Dental Monitoring system. We’ll provide you with the ScanBox Pro and accompanying materials. You can then download the app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store, depending on the type of smartphone you use.
Once you’ve downloaded the app, open it and select “I’m a patient.” We will email you an activation code and the information you need to log onto the system.
The app will send you to your email and that welcome message. Use that login information to log into the app for the first time. You’ll then be ready to start monitoring your orthodontic treatment process anytime and anywhere.
How Do I Use the ScanBox?
Using the ScanBox may seem a bit intimidating the first time. How does this odd contraption fit on your smartphone, and how will it work with your mouth?
The ScanBox Pro is made up of two main parts: the phone support and the cheek retractor tube. The phone support holds your phone properly so your camera can be used with the tube to take photos of your teeth.
You’ll need to use a mirror for your scans for your best results. Start by opening the Dental Monitoring app and following the instructions. You’ll insert your phone into the phone support, then insert the cheek retractor tube.
The cheek retractor tube holds your lips and cheeks away from your teeth, making it easy to take proper photos of your teeth. You’ll move the phone and tube according to the instructions in the app to get detailed images of all surfaces of your teeth.
Once your photos have been taken, you’ll review them to see if you need to retake any. You can retake any photos as necessary. Once the photos are good to go, you’ll simply send them through the app to Shoe Orthodontics.
Using ScanBox With Clear Aligners
The routine is slightly different for patients with clear aligners. That’s because we will need images of your teeth with and without the clear aligners.
If you wear clear aligners, you will take pictures of your teeth first without your aligners. Once those photos are complete, you’ll reinsert your clear aligners and take a set of photos with the aligners on. Then, you will send both sets of images to Shoe Orthodontics.
