Did you know that 26% of the households that receive food assistance have at least one member who has served or is currently serving in the military**?
That means a quarter of the people experiencing food insecurity in our country have sacrificed their time, talents, and health and risked their lives to serve us. We think we owe it to these incredible men and women to support our community. That's why we participate in the Military Share hosted by Roots for Boots! Roots for Boots is not only an incredible organization but also so well-led; it's hard to find the words to describe it. Christy Lucas has done a fantastic job with Roots for Boots. She leads with vision, meticulous attention to detail, and compassion.
Meet Our Friends, John and Finn
Sometimes you find yourself in the right place at the right time. This was the case when Dr. Shoe was honored to meet a remarkable veteran named John at a recent Military Share. John is legally blind and was hoping to find a canine companion to share his life with. That's where Finn comes in — a lab mix with which John fell in love.
Dr. Shoe wanted to ensure this dynamic duo had everything they needed to start their life together. So it was our privilege to provide services like a vet appointment and Service Dog Training through MCS Dog Training. We feel so humbled that we got to be a part of this journey and that we can give back to this wonderful gentleman. We're thankful for everything veterans have done (and continue to do) for our country.
