Adult Braces vs. Child Braes

[nectar_dropcap color="#91c14f"]W[/nectar_dropcap]hen an adult is looking for shoes, there are a lot of different variables one has to think through. For what purpose am I buying them? Which size to I need? Which color? Which style? All of those questions have to be answered before a person says, “this is the pair of shoes I will buy.” A whole different set of questions arises when buying for a child. Most importantly, how long will these last before I have to buy a new pair of shoes. It may come as a surprise to you, but similar questions go into the decisions that we make for orthodontic treatment for adults and young people.

In order to create the best treatment plan possible, we have to treat adults and children differently.

This also means that for an adult, the bite pattern and whether the patient has an overbite or an underbite or even a structural malformation in the jaw means a much different treatment option. We also have to take into account that the adult has a bite that is set due to years of eating and wearing down the sharper edges of the teeth. With young people, we can correct with less attention paid to the bite because just like the way their teeth are now, they will settle and wear into a natural bite.

Another thing we look at in adults and contrast with children is the work does in the past. A lot of young people getting braces haven’t had a broken tooth, or an implant, or a bridge, or anything like that. We take those variables into account when coming up with a treatment plan.

As a result of all of these variables, there are also more treatment options available to the adult than the younger patients. Traditional braces are the most common treatment for young people -- it’s fast and effective, especially during their time of growth. For adults, we do traditional braces and clear aligners and ceramic braces at a different ratio than for young people (there is a clear aligner for teens, but we end up using traditional braces more frequently with them. Adults also have other reasons for choosing other treatment options related to their professional expectations and social experiences.

No matter what age range you are in, though, Shoe Orthodontics is your place to get the best smile possible. We would love to consult with you, choose the best treatment plan for you, and get you on the road to a great smile.

The Details–

Anyone can Participate!

This virtual race allows you to log miles anytime, anywhere, as long as that anytime is between Monday, April 20, 2020 and Sunday, May 31, 2020. Please Note: Registration must be completed by May 1st to participate.

Early riser? No problem! Want to run at midnight? No problem! Want to run a little every day, or all in one day? No problem! Just be safe and practice social distancing guidelines!

How Does This Work?

You can WALK the miles, you can RUN the miles. It doesn’t matter, your only real competition is you! We are offering three challenge levels: 26.2 miles, 50 miles, and 100 miles. You do not need to designate your challenge level when registering. Our challenge to you is to start with 26.2 and see how many more you can go!

Your miles will be totaled as you go. When you complete at least 26.2 miles, you will receive a Hero Helper Medal. Kids who participate will get a Medal and a Cape made just for them when they complete any of the three challenge levels!

Where?

Anywhere in the USA! Run on the road, trails, treadmill... you can literally run in circles in your backyard if you choose! As long as you can log the miles (and you aren’t violating any laws), we’ll count them!

Let's work together to make a difference in our community and improve our health while we're stuck at home!

Where Is My Donation Going?

With the outbreak of COVID-19, we want to help the heroes who are fighting every day to save lives and our neighbors who have been affected by drastic and sudden loss of household income. Your registration proceeds and any additional donations will specifically benefit healthcare workers, first responders, and food banks, all while helping local restaurants stay afloat during these unprecedented times.

This will be accomplished by providing half of all proceeds to specific local restaurants who will use the funds to prepare warm meals for our first responders and healthcare workers. The other half of the proceeds will be donated to local food banks. As you can imagine, food banks are under extreme demand as unemployment has skyrocketed from COVID-19-related business closures.
